About Lap Steel Guitar

I built the Lap Steel Guitar website because of my love of the instrument and the music it makes.
My playing ability is that of about a novice, but I’d rather listen to the greats then play myself anyway.

I was first introduced to the Lap Steel Guitar at around 8 years of age.
My Dad was a part time professional musician who played gigs at the old Geauga Lake amusement park in Solon, Ohio, every Sunday afternoon.

He experimented with different types of music even though he mainly played big band for his enjoyment and polkas to make money.

One Sunday afternoon he brought along a guitar player who did something my young eyes never saw before.
He played sitting down with his guitar on his lap.

Not only was I pretty much shocked at that but I was memorized by the music.
Instantly the vision of waves and beaches came over me as I listened to one of the most beautiful melodies I’ve ever heard.

My father was in the Navy during World War Two and Hawaii was his base as his ship moved troops back and forth to the Pacific fronts. My surprise was that my Dad, a sax and clarinet player fell in love with the instrument and music too.

My main focus will be compiling the latest information about the Lap Steel Guitar.

I’ll include instruments, music and of course the players.

I’ll always welcome your comments and suggestions as I try and do justice to this wonderful instrument and music.

And I would love for any musician to submit articles for publication too.

Thanks!
